Wealthy Affiliate SEO Ranking System
This post explains the Wealthy Affiliate SEO ranking system in step-by-step format with a couple ‘extras’.
As a premium Wealthy Affiliate member the training within the Online Entrepreneur Certification training maps out this process in a lot more detail.
This post reflects the slightly modified process Jay Neill teaches in his “21 Minute Ranking Method”
If you click the image above you’ll be able to go and watch the webinar and how Jay ranks his post on Googles first page in under 20 minutes!
Would you like to know how to do this?
WA Search Engine Ranking System – Insights
Before we start I wanted to point out a few facts about ranking content in the Google search engine as Jay’s video makes it look almost too easy.
The process Jay follows is easy, but there are many factors that affect how your content may rank.
Jay is publishing his content onto his website which has the advantage of being on an old domain that Google knows and trusts. If you’re publishing to a new domain you’ll need to establish trust with Google before you’ll see you’re content rank quickly.
This period is referred to as the Google ‘sandbox’ and is negotiated by consistently publishing content through this 5-6 month time zone.
Other factors that effect how your site ranks are keyword research (are you going after ‘winable’ keywords), quality, and quantity of content as well as evidence of engagement with your visitors.
Jay’s key message for everyone building a website and ranking the content is…
…Patience.
WA SEO Ranking System
In the video Jay has written an article in his preferred word processor and so the step-by-step process covers creating the post in WordPress as follows…
Jay copies post into the WordPress editor and saves the post as a draft and then starts his 7 step ranking process.
Step 1 – The meta title tag – Add your title (see video below)
Step 2 – The meta description tag – Add your description tag (see video below)
Step 3 – Make sure your chosen keyword is present in the content (at least once but never more than 3%)
Step 4 – Make sure your post has an image with the alt tag containing the keyword (see video below).
Step 5 – Make sure your post has a internal link pointing out to another relevant post.
Step 6 – Add an external link pointing out to a relevant site.
Step 7 – Optionally embed a relevant video (see video below).
UPDATE Aug 2017: An additional step if you’re trying to rank a review post…
Step 8 (review posts) - Add your review information and star ratings using the free plugin WP Product Review Lite.
…and now for the secret source…
Jay’s Secret Ranking Sauce…
Step 8 – Post you newly published WordPress post onto Google Plus using your title and meta data description in the post.
Step 9 – ‘Fetch Post As Google’. This is Jay’s super tip. This requires the free Google Webmasters tool (see video below). Note: there is now an alternative that uses Google submit url to achieve the same outcome.
Step 9 Alternative to using ‘Fetch as Google’. Use submit url https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url
Step 10 – Jay then resubmits the website sitemap again using webmaster tools – this is optional.
Step 11 – Ask for comments in your content and if you’re a member of WA ask for comments within the community as visitor engagement is very helpful for SEO.
Wealthy Affiliate SEO Process In Action
So I’ve built tried this over three posts …and it works!
I haven’t also followed every step. I haven’t resubmitted my sitemap to Google or asked for WA comments (I just wanted to test the simplest process).
Let me share what I’ve tried so far.
I’ve recently been researching Visk Strizheus and his Four Percent Membership, and have written a couple of posts on the subject.
Vick, is a very successful marketer (understatement) who puts his success down to using a strategy he call his ‘signature hook‘ also known as value led marketing.
So I wrote a post about Vicks signature hook and posted about the post on Google Plus…
So as you can see the Google Plus post ranks in 4 minutes …pretty cool :).
What happens next day?
Searched signature hook in a Chrome incognito window so that I’d get unbiased search results and…
Nothing!
my post is nowhere 🙁
What went wrong?
Turns out signature hook is a team Google associates with ear rings, music and fishing!
But if I add another keyword to the search to identify to Google I’m interested in marketing and…
I’m back!
Tested this out by adding all sorts of extra keywords (Vick, percent, four, affiliate etc).
Have to test this out on a more difficult keyword term…
Stay tuned.

Wow very informative presentation. I am just at the end of my 1st month with Wealthy Affiliate and I have learned so much already, but this post may be one of the most important things I have learned so far. My site does not have enough content yet although that is not too far away. I have book marked your post because it appears like it is something I will refer to often at leas! t until it becomes second nature. Thanks for the help! Robert
The credit has to go to Jay (and Kyle). Jay adds a few simple additions to the core content process which does work wonders.
I hope you enjoy your WA training and encourage you to stick with the content creation. It can be frustrating at first with lots of work with little to show, but stick with it and results will come.
Ranking for SEO can be a mind wrenching process. But this post gives me insight on things I’ve never thought about or have been told by so called experts. You now have me wanting to join WA to get the feeling of this wonderful process you laid out here first hand. Thanks a lot.
Yes SEO can seem a bit intimidating with all the conflicting theories out there. WA have been teaching this stuff for over 12 years now and so the process is proven and white hat (not going to get you banned by Google).
If you do join WA Jay has also create about 4 series where he brainstorms site ideas and then builds the site out in step by step case study format to the point where the site is making sales…. these are really good to learn from.
Thanks for your comment James.
I guess I’m still in the sandbox phase. I have only had my blog for a couple of days and I’m very anxious to see my website start to take off within the search engines, but after reading this article, I understand that I need to be more patience.
I’m just going to keep updating my website with fresh unique content everyday
I feel your pain Thomas; it’s incredibly frustrating starting something with energy and passion and then realizing that you may have to wait 6-7-8 months before Google ‘trust’ your site.
SUCKS!
On the other hand, build the site properly and you then potentially have a powerful site that will allow you to rank content for lower competition keywords very easily… this is a skill that can make you a lot of money (done right).
Stick with it Thomas you’ll get there.
Wonderful article!
If there is something I feel like wanting to say, it would be that this is the most straightforward ranking strategy I have ever stumbled upon.
You put it all in order and once organized, it all makes perfect sense! (Bookmarked for sure.)
I must admit that the training provided by this Wealthy Affiliate is really something of a value and frankly, I have never seen a program offering such clear, easy to follow and applicable training. ever!
Thank you for sharing this precious training 🙂
Cheers!
Thanks Aydo 🙂
I haven’t had a chance to test this on more competitive keyword terms yet, but this is working better than I remember it (I’d been a little distracted by using PPC traffic).
My website is also older now and though I haven’t always been consistent in posting new content it has built up some trust with Google (which means ranking opportunity / money).
Hi Richard
That’s a great video of Jay teaching how to rank new post quickly for sure.
I think one thing you mentioned is super important to beginners, and that’s the sandbox.
It looks to me like particular niches get pitched in and held down longer than others. I think the more competitive the niche is the longer it takes for Google to start ranking your content.
It’s quick and easy to get it indexed with Jays method, but ranking can take some time. So, it’s important to get in the business for the long haul, and be diligent looks to me like?
Thanks, great article on Wealthy Affiliate SEO Ranking System
Great point Mike,
I think the takeaway is to pick niches that will hold your interest over the long-haul. That way content generation will be fun rather than work. “The joy doesn’t start later” as Leo Babauta says.
Hi Richard,
Thanks for posting this. I’m a regular watcher of Jay’s tutorials and I just love them. He’s got the best advice. It’s great that you are reiterating his advice and then adding some of your own.
It’s nice to get extra help, or a new take, on previous advice. Everyone gets something different out of videos or blogs and it’s such a good idea to share that. Fresh eyes and ideas are always nice!
Thanks again for sharing!
Ashley
Thanks Ashley.
I think the whole WA system of smart keyword research to identify low competition keywords, followed up with unique content posted and promoted the way shown is a simple but effective system. Done consistently it has the power to change lives.
Wow this is awesome, why have I not heard of this before? It clearly works for you!
You’ve given me a great rundown. Up to now I’ve published an article and by adding my target keyword in the title and first paragraph but I think I’ve been doing it wrong.
As I have 50 posts so far on my blog, would you recommend I go back and chnage the meta desciptions etc retrospectively? Woul this help my older posts rank Many thanks
Hi, Simon thanks for your excellent question.
Firstly credit to Kyle goes and the WA team this is the core approach taught. Jay has added the bits about using Google Webmasters tools to tell Google to ‘fetch’ and index your post.
Kyle always recommends not wasting time on titivating old content as creating new keyword focused content will serve you best… this sounds like great advice to me.
In terms of your older posts, I would look in Google analytics to see which pages / posts are getting you the most traffic and see if you can help them by adding more relevant topic related content into those posts/pages and then post about your update on Google plus using the main keyword / title, and meta description and asking Google to re-index it as per the above instruction.
At 50 posts your site should start seeing more Google love 🙂
Good luck.
Hi Richard,
Great article! I’ve heard bits and pieces about Jay’s video, but never caught the whole thing. Thank you for breaking it down and providing the direct link.
I am currently using quite a few of these steps and seeing great results. One example is my three week old site is already ranked number one on Google for several search terms! Having all the steps from you will surely only help.
Thanks again,
JaemiO
That’s awesome Jaemi for such a young site… you’ve obviously followed the training picked good keywords and created unique quality content… the start of something great I hope. 🙂
I have been here a little over a month. I am truly enjoying going through all the training.
So much going on and still a lot to learn. After reading this article it is going to help my page grow. Its easy to forget about the SEO Ranking system when learning.
I definitely see myself visiting this page again to refresh what you have here in a much easier way to understand.
Hi Bobby, when you’ve followed Jays process a few times it becomes second nature, I keep my Goole Plus and Webmasters accounts open under different tabs so I can quickly follow the process after posting new content.
It’s worth the small amount of effort.
Hey, first of all thanks for this great, interesting and very informative article on wealthy affiliates ranking system. I have been a member at wealthy affiliate for a few months now and I am enjoying it quite a lot. I have watches the webinar playback which you recommended and it helped me a lot. I had a lot of trouble getting ranked fast, but now I understand how to fasten my ranking time.
Thanks Los,
Jay does lot’s of excellent training webinars, they are well worth checking out. I put the post together to give people (myself included) a quick checklist for posting.
Spent 2 hours on this page and learned a ton of information about aspects of SEO that have been holding up the results I am seeking with my pages and posts. I like your external and internal links. Will be implementing to get a featured image into post on Google+ and coming back for more.
Hi Roger, glad it’s helping, if you get a chance do watch Jay’s full training it goes deeper on certain aspects including the power of having an older (6 months plus) website with a consistent posting history.
